Having the opportunity to hear Brenda’s story is something that was extremely impactful for our program. Our student-athletes are using words like “powerful”. “emotional”, and “riveting” to describe the evening. Many coaches commented about how you could hear a pin drop- not something you would typically use to describe a room filled with 600 college student-athletes. We are extremely thankful for the chance to meet Brenda and we are committed to continuing the Set the Expectation conversation.
I had the most powerful discussion in 20 years of education after Brenda’s presentation. We need to have her back each year.
The Voices of Men assembly held here at Logan HS yesterday was one of the most powerful and emotional assemblies we have ever had. Brenda and Guante were excellent and the message they sent to our entire student population was one that all young people need to hear. I would highly recommend this assembly to any high school.
I had students approach me and suggest “Let’s start a club focusing on standing up for each other. To ensure males and females participate we could call it “Voices of Toppers” (school nickname is Hilltoppers).” Maybe that’s the most important takeaway from the assembly… students were motivated to create change.
This is one presentation I will remember from high school. We need to continue this conversation with all of our classmates.
